Barrenness

In this, the barrenness of our souls;
Like a riverbed of shattered clay;
Where once curious fishes and cheeky foxes;
But now, cracks and holes and crevices;
Let slip unseen howls of distant longings.
Pray ye to the LORD of the land;
That His mercy rain may yet fall;
To wash away the hardness of our ways.
